Basketball Strategies

On my blog today im going to tell you about different basketball strategies. These are Man To Man, Zone, Offense Against Junk Defense and Fast Break/ Transition Offense.

  • Man To Man- This strategy is motion offense.
The 5 out motion offense is an offense hat has all five men on the perimeter.
The 4 out / 1in motion has 4 players on the perimeter and 1 player in the post.
The 3 out / 2 in the motion has 3 players on the perimeter and 2 players in the post.
The 2 out / 3 in the motion has 2 players on the perimeter and 3 players in the post.

  •      2. Zone- You will want to start your players out in this set.
  •
  • Player 1 can pass it to either wing.

  • If Player 1 passes it to Player 2, Player 5 goes to the high post area on the ball side. Player 4 slides from the block to the short corner. The short corner is about 2 to 3 feet away from the baseline and 2 to 3 feet outside the lane.
  • Player 2 looks to pass the ball to Player 5 in the high post or Player 4 in the low post area if possible.

When the ball is on the wing, the wing player should not be in a rush. He should be patient to look at how the defense reacts and try to find a hole in the defense.

    • Junk Defense- the purpose of the defense is misunderstood. Commonly, coaches believe it is to deny or shut down a great scorer, but there are many other reasons. Junk defenses can change tempo, they can hide poor defensive players, I have always had great success with playing the point guard and forcing others to handle the ball, commonly called "cutting the head off the snake." Often, you cannot get into the other coach's head if you don't know what his purpose is. Emphasizing the wrong thing on offense only helps the defense even more.

    • Fastbreak- You use this to,
    • To get easy scoring opportunities
    • Control tempo & force bad decisions for your opposition
    •  Wear teams down
    • Beating zones and pressure
    • Aggressive mentality

Basketball Skills

Today I learned a lot of new basketball passes like some passes that comes with its own variations such as basic and advanced.

Basic Variations
  • Chest Pass-A pass that a player should strive to throw it to a receiver by having your thumbs directly behind the ball.
  • Bounce Pass-A pass that is thrown with the same motion however its aimed at the floor
  • Overhead Pass-This pass is often used as an outlet pass. Bring the ball directly behind your head with both ands on the ball then follow through.
  • Wrap Around Pass-A pass that happens when you step around your the defense player with your pivot foot.
Advanced Variations

  • Baseball Pass-A baseball pass is a one-handed pass that uses the same motion as a baseball throw.
  • Dribble Pass-A pass used to quickly pass the ball with one had off the dribble.
  • Behind-The-Back-Pass-A pass that is used to confuse defenders you do this by bringing the ball behind the back.
  • Pick And Roll Pass-A pass used when defenders double-team and is used to hold the ball from the defenders.
I learned all of these passes by practicing everyday and going through obstacles that help me. Also by going through the steps more than one time.
